What the engine actually checks

Where we stand
Accreditation statement · 31 Aug 2026OnPoint produces records to Gas Safe procedure and BS 7671. It is not accredited, endorsed or approved by Gas Safe Register, the IET or BSI, and it does not make anyone competent to carry out gas or electrical work. To certify gas work in the UK you must be Gas Safe registered — the engine will flag a gas record without a registration number, but the engineer who signs a certificate remains responsible for it.
01Which certificates does OnPoint support?
39 UK certificate types: 18 gas, including the Landlord/Homeowner Gas Safety Record (CP12), Danger Do Not Use Warning Notices and commercial catering records; 20 electrical, including the Electrical Installation Certificate, EICR, minor works, PAT testing, emergency lighting and fire detection and alarm certificates; and the Mains Pressure Hot Water Cylinder Commissioning Checklist. There is also a custom form and certificate builder for anything else.
02Can I issue a CP12 from my phone?
Yes. The Landlord/Homeowner Gas Safety Record is completed, validated, signed and issued from the native iOS or Android app on site, including the customer's on-screen signature.
03Does it work without signal?
Yes. Certificate capture is fully offline, with a real sync queue rather than a cache. You can complete a full day of records with no signal and everything syncs when you're back in coverage. Validation runs on the device, so a blocking issue is caught on site rather than on upload.
04Does OnPoint check my certificates for errors?
Yes — that's the point of it. A validation engine of 67 rules checks each record as you complete it, across four severities: blocking (the certificate cannot be issued), problem (it is wrong and should be fixed), warning (it looks wrong, check it) and note. Every issue tells you what is wrong, why it is wrong and how to fix it.
05Does it support BS 7671 electrical certificates?
Yes. Electrical Installation Certificates, EICRs, minor works and isolation certificates follow BS 7671 conventions, and the validation rules cover measured Zs against the maximum permitted, Zs consistency with R1+R2, CPC size against Table 54.7, insulation resistance, RCD disconnection times at 5×IΔn, ring final circuit ratios and unclassified observations.
06Can I build my own certificate type?
Yes. The custom form and certificate builder lets you create any document your trade or your client asks for, and it's included on every plan like everything else.
07How do renewals work?
Every certificate's expiry is tracked against the property. OnPoint separates overdue, due-this-week and upcoming, and contacts the customer before a certificate lapses so the work is rebooked rather than forgotten.
08Can customers see their certificates?
Yes. Certificates are delivered to the customer portal, where they sit alongside upcoming renewals and quotes. Access is by a secure link with no app to install, and the portal is branded to your organisation.
09Do I need to be Gas Safe registered to use it?
To carry out and certify gas work in the UK you must be Gas Safe registered — that is the law, not an OnPoint rule, and the engine will flag a gas record with no registration number on it. OnPoint itself is software: it is not accredited or endorsed by Gas Safe Register, the IET or BSI, and the engineer who signs the certificate remains responsible for the work.
