Certificates built in, not bought in
39 named UK types — 18 gas, 20 electrical and hot water — included on every plan, with a custom builder. ServiceM8 can produce UK gas certificates: you install forms from the Form Store, and some UK certificate forms are sold by third parties at extra cost. The distinction is built-in and validated against installed as an add-on.
The validation engine
67 rules across Gas Safe procedure and BS 7671 that block an invalid certificate before it's issued — a GC number contradicting the manufacturer, an unsafe appliance with no Danger Do Not Use notice, an EICR marked unsatisfactory with no C1, C2 or FI, measured Zs above the maximum, CPC below Table 54.7. A full Android app
ServiceM8's site recommends iPhones and iPads, and Android users get ServiceM8 Lite, a reduced app for basic field use. OnPoint's Android app is the same app as its iOS one — if half your engineers are on Android, that matters more than most feature rows.
No job cap
ServiceM8's plans cap monthly jobs at 30, 50, 150, 500 or 1500, and Premium Plus charges 15p for each job beyond the cap. OnPoint has no limit, so a busy month costs the same as a quiet one and you never plan work around a plan boundary.
UK tax handling
CIS deductions and the VAT domestic reverse charge on quotes and invoices. ServiceM8 is an Australian product and doesn't advertise either.
AI on the certificate itself
Appliance details read from a photo of the data plate with per-field confidence and a refusal to guess serial numbers, flue readings read from the analyser, spoken job reports turned into structured written ones, GC number and fault-code lookup. Not advertised on their site.
Fully offline, and the customer side
A real sync queue for the whole job — jobs, certificates, photos and signatures — with validation running on the device. Plus a customer portal with certificate signing, renewals and a question thread on quotes, and a public booking page with slot holds, a standby list and a gap filler. Not advertised on their site.
Money and back office
Payment plans and instalments, late-payment interest on configurable terms, a bank feed with automatic matching, the partner network with a subcontractor portal and hashed dispute evidence pack, timesheets and holiday, a fleet register with DVLA lookup, project costing and multi-organisation from one login.

It depends on your ratio of people to jobs. OnPoint is cheaper the more jobs you run per person — a sole trader on 40 jobs is £19 against £25, five engineers on 200 jobs is £55 against £119. ServiceM8 is cheaper with a large team on fewer jobs — twenty people on 140 jobs is £59 against £190.
02Does ServiceM8 do UK gas certificates?
Yes, through the Form Store — you install the forms you need, and some UK certificate forms are sold by third parties at extra cost. OnPoint has 39 named types built in on every plan with 67 validation rules behind them. Both produce a certificate; only one checks it against the regulations first.
03My engineers are on Android. Does that matter?
A lot. ServiceM8's site recommends iPhones and iPads; Android users get ServiceM8 Lite, a reduced app for basic field use. OnPoint's Android app is the same app as its iOS one, so you don't have to standardise on Apple hardware.
04What happens if I go over the job cap?
On ServiceM8 you move up a plan, and on Premium Plus you pay 15p a job beyond 1500. OnPoint has no job cap at all, so a seasonal spike doesn't change the bill.
05Is there a free OnPoint plan?
