Oil engineer software that starts at the tank.
Tank risk assessments, service and commissioning records, landlord checks and warning notices, filled in on your phone. OnPoint works out what the tank needs, checks each record as you write it, and reminds the customer when next year's service is due.
Try it in the garden.
Drag the tank, or change the nation. On site you answer these questions yourself. Here the drawing answers them, and the verdicts and the check are OnPoint's own, worked out by the same rules the app runs.

One oil service, from the tank to the paperwork.
Ashdown Cottage is a rented farmhouse at the end of a lane in Herefordshire. Marches Lettings books its yearly oil service and landlord check. Here's that visit in OnPoint, starting where you do.
At the tank
The record starts where you do
Open the Oil Firing Service & Commissioning Record and row 1 is oil storage: the tank and its supports, siting, water in the tank, the gauge, fill point, vent and overfill alarm. Row 2 is the supply, with the filter and the fire valve. Fifteen rows in all, and any that can't apply to this burner print N/A, not a blank. Your business details, your name and your saved signature are already on it.

Readings, checked as you type them
Photograph the analyser printout and tap Scan analyser, and the CO₂, O₂, CO, flue gas temperature and efficiency come in for you to check, or type them. OnPoint won't tell you what the CO₂ should be, because that band is in the manufacturer's instructions for the burner in front of you. What it catches is the reading no analyser could give, a smoke number that isn't a whole number, and an analyser that was out of calibration on the day.

Worth checkingCO₂ of 118 % is outside what an analyser reads
An analyser reports CO₂ between 0 and 20 %. This is almost always a typo.
Check the printout and re-enter the reading.
The decimal point went missing.
Worth checkingThe analyser's calibration had run out before this visit
Readings from an analyser out of calibration can't be relied on, and OFTEC audits check calibration.
When it isn't safe
The warning notice is part of the job
Record the appliance as not safe to use, and the record points out there's no warning notice yet. The Oil Warning & Advice Notice takes each fault with its own risk, immediate or potential, whether the label went on, whether the customer let you turn it off, and the time as well as the date.

In a rented home
The landlord check goes with it
The Landlord Oil Installation Check records the tenant and the landlord, the appliance and the tank, seven checks and the readings. The carbon monoxide alarm is its own numbered row, because a rented home with an oil appliance must have one. It also asks if there's been a service in the last 12 months, because this check isn't one.

The next service comes round on its own
The next service date fills in a year from the visit, on the service record and the landlord check. Renewals lists every one coming up, and 30 days before, the customer gets a reminder by email, and a text too if you switch that on. If you take online bookings, they pick a time themselves. Next year, OnPoint offers to bring the appliance, burner and tank across from this record. Every reading, and the nozzle, is yours to take on the day.

We're new. That works in your favour.

“The auto-renewal reminders for gas safety records pay for the subscription on their own. No more landlords slipping through. We added properties this year because we could actually handle the compliance.”
“We were running the business off WhatsApp threads and a notebook. OnPoint pulled everything into one place. The customer portal alone has cut my admin in half. I'm not retyping addresses or chasing photos anymore.”
No signal at the end of the lane? Carry on.
Oil customers tend to live where the signal gives up. Records, signatures, photos and clock-ins save on your phone. Tap Send on a record and it waits there, then goes on its own when you're back in range. Quotes and invoices need a connection, so make those from the village.

Five oil forms, under the numbers you know.
Switch on OFTEC registered in your organisation details and add your registration number, and all five unlock. Each one covers the same checks as the paper form with that number, in OnPoint's own layout, with room for photos and both signatures.
Anything else still on paper? Take a photo of it and OnPoint builds it as a form you fill in on your phone. Gas Safe as well? Add that number too and the gas records unlock.

Questions oil engineers ask us.
OnPoint is also built for heating engineers, gas engineers and boiler installers.
What is OnPoint?
OnPoint is job management software for UK oil heating engineers. It has the five oil forms (service and commissioning record, landlord check, tank risk assessment, installation completion report and warning and advice notice), checks on every record, next service reminders, quotes, the diary, invoices and card payments, in one app for iPhone, Android and the web.
Do I need an OFTEC registration number?
Yes, for the oil forms. Switch on OFTEC registered in your organisation details and add your registration number, and the five oil forms unlock. Once we've checked the number, it fills in on each new form. Everything else, like quotes, invoices, the diary and your own forms, works without one.
Which oil forms does it have?
The Oil Firing Service & Commissioning Record (the checks on CD/11), the Landlord Oil Installation Check (CD/12), the Oil Storage Tank Risk Assessment (TI/133D), the Oil Installation Completion Report (CD/10) and the Oil Warning & Advice Notice (CD/14). They're OnPoint's own records of the same checks, and each has room for photos and both signatures.
Does it do oil tank risk assessments?
Yes. Answer the pollution and fire separation questions on site and OnPoint works out whether the tank needs secondary containment and fire protection, and says which answers decided it. It uses the rules for the nation you pick, so in Wales a new or replacement tank over 200 litres always needs bunding. If what's fitted doesn't match the answers, like a single skin tank where containment is required, it points that out.
Can I do landlord checks on rented homes?
Yes. The Landlord Oil Installation Check records the tenant and the landlord, the appliance and the tank, seven checks including the carbon monoxide alarm, and the readings. The next check is due a year on, with a reminder. Send it and the agent gets the check and your invoice, while the tenant gets the check on its own.
Does it check my combustion readings?
It checks for mistakes, not for what's right for the burner. It flags a reading no analyser could give, like CO₂ of 118 %, a smoke number that isn't whole, an analyser past its calibration date, a failed check with nothing written about it, and an appliance left unsafe with no warning notice. It never changes a reading and never stops you issuing the record. To save typing, photograph the analyser printout or screen and Scan analyser reads the figures in for you to check. The smoke number is never scanned: it comes off the smoke pump.
Will it remind my customers when the next service is due?
Yes. The service record and the landlord check set the next date a year from the visit. Renewals lists every one coming up, and 30 days before, OnPoint emails the customer. Switch on renewal texts and they get a text the same morning too. You can change how far ahead in your settings, or switch it off for a single record.
Do I have to type the boiler and tank in again next year?
No. Start next year's record at the same address and OnPoint offers the one before: tap Bring them across and the appliance, burner, fuel, flue and tank details fill in. Only what's installed comes across. Every check, reading and result stays blank for today, and so do the nozzle and pump pressure, because the nozzle is renewed at every service.
Does it work with no signal?
Yes, for the work on site. Records, signatures, photos and clock-ins save on your phone, and a record you send waits there and goes on its own when you're back in range. Quotes and invoices need a connection, so make those once you have signal.
Does it work with Xero?
Yes. OnPoint sends your contacts, invoices and payments to Xero, and payments you record in Xero come back to OnPoint.
How much does it cost?
£19 a month for one person, plus £9 a month for each extra person. Or pay yearly: £190 a year for you and £90 for each extra person, which is 2 months free. Every feature is on that one plan. You get 14 days free with no card needed, and you can cancel any time.
I use Commusoft, Joblogic or BigChange. How does OnPoint compare?
We've put OnPoint side by side with each of them, feature by feature. Moving across? Send us your customers, sites and past jobs and our team imports them for you, free.
You fill in a schedule every service. Here's ours.
£19 a month for you, and £9 a month for each engineer you add. No tiers and no add-ons, so a one-van oil business and a team of ten get the same app.
14 days free, no card needed. Cancel any time.
