OnPoint vs Gas Engineer Software

For most gas businesses, yes. OnPoint is £19 a month for one person and £9 for each extra person, with no VAT on top. Gas Engineer Software's Core plan, their cheapest with quotes, invoices and the diary, is £25 a user a month plus VAT, or £23 plus VAT billed yearly. For a team of three that's £37.00 a month against £90.00 with VAT. The exception is a VAT-registered sole trader who only issues certificates: their Starter plan billed yearly is £18 plus VAT, £1 a month less than OnPoint once the VAT is reclaimed.

OnPoint pricing

Their pricing page lists three plans, per user per month, excluding VAT. Starter is £19 and is for a single user, with records and certificates but no quotes, invoices or diary. Core is £25 and Pro is £32. Billed yearly, they're £18, £23 and £30. Reminder texts use credits at £10 plus VAT for 100, and open banking payments through Crezco cost £1 plus VAT per invoice paid. Yes. OnPoint has five oil records, one for each OFTEC form Gas Engineer Software lists: CD/10, CD/11, CD/12, CD/14 and TI/133D. They open with your OFTEC number and are checked as you fill them in, like the gas records.

OnPoint for oil engineers

No. Gas Engineer Software has over 2,300 manufacturer manuals in its app, and on Pro an AI assistant that answers from them. If you use manuals every day, that's a good reason to choose them. OnPoint's gas tools work on the record itself: plate and analyser scans from a photo, checks as you fill it in, and calculators for gas rate, pipe sizing, and IGEM/UP/1 and UP/1A testing and purging.

From a photo, yes. Photograph the analyser's screen or printout and OnPoint reads the ratio, CO₂ and CO at low and high rate for you to check and apply. On the non-domestic inspection record and the oil records it reads the rest of the printout too, like O₂, flue temperature and efficiency. It doesn't connect by Bluetooth. Gas Engineer Software does, with the Anton Sprint Pro3 and newer, the Kane 258, 358, 458 and 458s, and the TPI DC710 and DC711.

Their own site says it doesn't integrate with Stripe or card processors. Invoices can carry a QR code and a link to pay by open banking through Crezco, for £1 plus VAT per invoice paid. OnPoint takes card or Pay by Bank through your own Stripe account: Stripe takes its standard fee and OnPoint adds nothing.

With OnPoint, yes. Send the record by email or text and the landlord or agent signs from their own link. Their signature is added and nothing you recorded changes. The same works on 32 certificate types, oil and heat pump records included, and on your own forms. Gas Engineer Software's site shows the customer signing on your phone and doesn't mention signing from a link.

Yes. Put the customer on a service plan and each visit goes in the diary by itself, weeks before it's due, with the time and engineer you set, and the customer gets the usual appointment confirmation. Or finish a job and press Book next service for the same customer, property and engineer. Plans book the visits; you still invoice each one.

Yes. There are non-domestic inspection, catering, testing and purging, and plant commissioning and servicing records, checked as you fill them in. The inspection, catering and plant records fill in a next date 12 months on, which you can change if the manufacturer's instructions say otherwise, and the inspection and plant records take the analyser scan. For testing and purging, an IGEM/UP/1 and UP/1A calculator works out the figures and offers them to the record for you to check.

OnPoint for commercial gas

Not today. OnPoint syncs with Xero: invoices, the customers on them and payments go across, and payments you record in Xero come back. Gas Engineer Software syncs with Xero, QuickBooks and Sage on its Pro plan.

Yes, on the same plan. As well as gas and oil, there are EICRs, EICs, minor works, PAT, fire alarm and emergency lighting certificates, heat pump commissioning and service records, F-Gas, solar PV and EV charge point certificates. Each opens with the registration it needs, such as confirming a qualified electrician, or a scheme number for an EIC.

Yes, both ways. Each person connects their own Google Calendar: their OnPoint jobs appear in it, and moving a job there moves it in OnPoint. Busy time from their Google Calendar shows on OnPoint's diary, with a warning if you book over it. Outlook and Apple get a subscribed calendar link, which is one way. Gas Engineer Software's help centre describes a one-way feed to Google, Apple and Outlook, so changes made there don't come back.

Yes. In Gas Engineer Software's web portal, Job Addresses has an Export Data button that downloads your customers and job addresses as a CSV. Send it to us and we'll import it for you, free. Or use Import from a spreadsheet in OnPoint: it reads that file, suggests which column is which and shows you what it's about to add, bringing in customers with their contact details and address. Your old certificates stay as PDFs, Record existing certificate keeps each one's renewal coming round, and you can run both through the 14-day trial.

No. Both are month to month with no setup fee, and both have a 14-day free trial with no card. Both also offer yearly billing, paid up front. Gas Engineer Software's is discounted, and OnPoint's is the full twelve months.
