The part of this page that isn't about us
Six things they do that we either don't do at all, or don't do their way. If one of these is your daily work, stop reading and go and try Checker.
Three of those six are document families, not features — no amount of OnPoint development this year changes them. They're a straight answer to “can it do my work”, and for oil, F-Gas and water regs the answer is no.
Their site doesn't publish everything, so where it's silent we've written “not advertised” rather than claiming they can't do it. It may exist and simply not be on the page.

A certificate tool, or the whole business
On Checker the customer database, reminders and accounts sync need Pro, and staff logins need Pro+. On OnPoint there is no tier to climb.
Electrical: 20 types against three
Checker advertises EIC, Minor Works and EICR. OnPoint adds emergency lighting completion and periodic testing, fire detection and alarm design, installation and commissioning, the full PAT family including registers for building sites, electrical isolation and distribution board details — 20 in all, plus 18 gas types, hot water and a custom certificate builder.
A validation engine
67 rules covering Gas Safe procedure and BS 7671 that block an invalid certificate before it's issued — a GC number contradicting the manufacturer, an unsafe appliance with no Danger Do Not Use notice, an EICR marked unsatisfactory with no C1, C2 or FI, measured Zs above the maximum. Nothing behind a tier
Every OnPoint feature is on every plan — the certificates, the AI, the portal, payments, the partner network. Checker's own pricing page puts the customer database, reminders and accounts sync on Pro, and staff logins on Pro+ at £10.99 per sub-user.
Engineer reports written on site
Dictate the job and a clean structured report comes back, reformatted into professional past tense without inventing detail. Parts used are suggested from the report text, photos carry their EXIF metadata as proof of when and where, and the appointment, certificates and report go to the customer in one send. Not advertised on their site.
The day, not just the paperwork
Live engineer tracking on a map, route ETA and ETA notifications to the customer. A public booking page with bookable services, slot holds, a standby list and a gap filler for holes in the diary. Clash detection that respects approved leave, multiple engineers per appointment, arrival windows. Not advertised on their site.
Getting paid, properly
Payment plans and instalments with saved cards and automatic reminders, late-payment interest on configurable terms, an automated chasing queue, and a TrueLayer bank feed that matches payments automatically. CIS deductions and the VAT domestic reverse charge are handled correctly on quotes and invoices. Not advertised on their site.
Subcontracting, with an audit trail
A partner network for sending and receiving job offers, a subcontractor portal for progress updates and evidence upload, completion proof, payout tracking, and a hashed, frozen dispute evidence pack both sides can download. Not advertised on their site.
A customer portal
Certificates, renewals and quotes on one secure link, with a question thread and certificate signing. Tenants can update their own details, and links can be sent, extended or revoked. Not advertised on their site.
Running the firm
Project cost control with real job margins, timesheets with clock in/out, breaks, exceptions and approval, holiday management, a fleet register with DVLA lookup by registration, custom roles and permissions you can preview, pricing hidden from selected staff, and multi-organisation from one login. Not advertised on their site.
AI on the certificate itself
Appliance details read from a photo of the data plate with per-field confidence and a refusal to guess serial numbers, flue readings read from the analyser, spoken reports turned into written ones, GC number and fault-code lookup, suggested parts and suggested project costs. Checker advertises no AI.

OnPoint adds 20 electrical certificate types against Checker's three, a 67-rule validation engine, a customer portal, live tracking and booking, payment plans and bank matching, subcontracting, timesheets and job costing — with nothing behind a tier. Checker supports oil and OFTEC, F-Gas and water regulation documents, which OnPoint does not, and is cheaper for a single user.
02Which is cheaper?
Checker for one person, OnPoint from two upwards. Checker Lite is £10.99 a month and Pro is £19.99, against OnPoint's £19. Add people and OnPoint's £9 seats pull ahead: two seats is £28 against £36.98, three is £37 against £47.97, five is £55 against £69.95 and ten is £100 against £124.90. Prices ex VAT, checked 31 August 2026; OnPoint is not VAT registered, so its price is the total.
03Which does more electrical work?
OnPoint. Checker advertises three electrical certificates — EIC, Minor Works and EICR. OnPoint has 20, adding emergency lighting completion and periodic testing, fire detection and alarm design, installation and commissioning, the full PAT family including building-site registers, electrical isolation and distribution board details — with BS 7671 validation rules behind them.
04Does OnPoint do oil or F-Gas?
No. OnPoint covers gas, electrical and hot water. Checker covers oil and OFTEC, F-Gas records for refrigeration and air conditioning, and water regulation documents. If any of those are part of your work, Checker supports them and OnPoint does not.

06Which suits a sole trader?
If you're gas-only, price-sensitive and mainly issuing records and invoices, Checker Lite at £10.99 is hard to beat and we'd rather say so. Note that Lite has no customer database, reminders or accounts sync — those need Pro at £19.99, which is level with OnPoint. Choose OnPoint if you do electrical work as well, want certificates validated before issue, or want the renewals, portal and booking side without paying more later.
07Which suits a team?
OnPoint, on price and on scope. Seats are £9 after the first, and staff logins don't require a higher tier. Timesheets, holiday, the fleet register, custom roles and permissions, live tracking, project costing and the partner network are all included. The exception stands: if your team does oil, F-Gas or water regulation work, Checker covers those and OnPoint doesn't.
08Does either check certificates for mistakes?
OnPoint does, through a 67-rule validation engine covering Gas Safe procedure and BS 7671 that blocks an invalid certificate before it's issued and explains what's wrong, why, and how to fix it. Checker does not advertise certificate validation. Either way the engineer signs the certificate and remains responsible for the work.
